Department of Tourism (DOT) Undersecretary and PRA alternate chair Woodrow Maquiling Jr. from June 10 to 12 led the country’s tourism delegation to the three-day expo themed “Friendship and Goodwill between Japan and Philippines”, is considered one of the biggest celebrations and gatherings of friendship between the Philippines and Japan. The event was at the Ueno Onshi Park from June 10 to 12.

In his address, Maquiling thanked his Japanese tourism counterparts for giving the DOT a platform to showcase the Philippines’ tourism offerings to the Japan Market.

He cited, in particular, the Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV) program of the PRA, a form of tourism investment that allows a special non-immigrant visa for foreign nationals who would like to retire in the Philippines or make the country their investment destination.

“As our country’s fourth-largest source of tourists to the Philippines, Japan has become our tourism’s strongest pillar and one of our major retirement markets,” said Maquiling, who was joined by PRA General Manager and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Atty. Bienvenido K. Chy.

Based on tourism data, there are over 4,000 Japanese who made the Philippines their choice for retirement, which makes Japan one of our top five sources of foreign senior retirees.

“I am happy to note that arrivals from Japan have started to return to normal after two years of the pandemic, now with over 15,000 arrivals from Japan since we opened our borders in February 2022,” he added, citing that the DOT expects the figures to improve as the Philippines continue to show recovery and resilience against the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over 45,000 Filipinos and Japanese visitors from Japan attended the event, including the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA).

The expo coincided with the 124th Philippine Independence Day, which was also celebrated in recognition by other government agencies and Japanese officials.

The restart of its South Korea flight is the latest effort in the airline’s strong bid to return to its pre-COVID international capacity.

Team Out of Town Hub (www.OutofTownBlog.com) – AirAsia Philippines resumes flights to Seoul (Incheon), South Korea starting 14 June 2022. Seoul is the latest addition to a line-up of other reactivated AirAsia Philippines international destinations including Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, and Hong Kong, as the airline accelerates its route expansion campaign this year.

The world’s best low-cost airline now flies tri-weekly to the South Korean metropolitan city – every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The AirAsia Philippines Manila-Seoul flight departs at 5:35 p.m. from Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 and is estimated to arrive at the Incheon International Airport at 10:40 p.m.

AirAsia’s return to Seoul follows the recent announcement of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines on the resumption of the application and issuance of all types of visas which started last June 1, 2022.

AirAsia Philippines Spokesperson and Head of Communications and Public Affairs Steve Dailisan shares: “In 2022, we are aggressive in growing our flight frequency and route network. We are at 80 percent of our pre-covid frequency levels this Q2 and we expect to recover fully by Q4. With additional flights, we expect tremendous growth in our ancillary businesses like baggage, meals, and even hot seats. The situation is truly looking up for all lines of businesses in aviation this year.”

Dailisan notes that alongside the staggering increase in passengers flown, the airline saw a triple-digit growth for its ancillary products. The world’s best low-cost airline saw a whopping 282 percent increase in sales for additional baggage allowance and a 335 percent increase in in-flight meal purchases from January to June compared to the same period last year.

In addition to the demand for its ancillary products, AirAsia Philippines is actively launching back-to-back product packages, including its Value Pack Promo. Value Pack, which goes as low as Php 564, is an all-in-one flight add-on promo that provides passengers with 20kg check-in baggage, the option to choose Standard seats, one Santan Meal, and Baggage Protect. From June 6 – 19, 2022, guests can avail of the promo, allowing them to save up to 37 percent off vs. booking the add-ons individually.

Guests traveling either domestically or internationally from August 01 to December 08, 2022, are encouraged to avail of the promo. Travelers can choose their flight itinerary on www.airasia.com/flight/en/gb. On the add-ons page, they must tick Value Pack – an option located at the top of the page. They may then proceed with Guest Details, Confirmation, and Payment.

AirAsia Philippines has one of the most competitive ancillary services in the country – in variety, quality, and price point. It is the only low-cost carrier that applies flexibility in its baggage products, allowing passengers to have more than one piece of luggage for both hand-carry and check-in baggage. This, according to the airline, is a testament to its commitment to providing a world-class flight experience without compromising its core promise of attainability.
