Team Out of Town Blog Hub (Outoftownblog.com) – A Filipino feast will not be complete without Kalderetang Baka on the buffet spread. Caldereta’s name is derived from the Spanish word caldera meaning cauldron. Kalderetang Baka or Beef caldereta is a popular beef stew dish from the Philippines. The fatty beef meat is stewed with tomato sauce, carrots, potato, liver paste, and spices.
If you are looking for the best part of beef to use for caldereta, we highly recommend chuck beef. This part becomes tender and juicy as you slowly cook it in water. You may also use beef brisket, ribs, and beef shanks as alternatives.
Here’s an easy-to-follow Kalderetang Baka recipe using Mama Sita’s Caldereta Mix combined with potatoes, carrots, and bell peppers.
Cooking Time: 2:13 hr(s)
Serves: 8-10
Main Ingredients: Beef
Cooking Style: Stewed
Kalderetang Baka Ingredients
1 pouch / 50 g of Mama Sita’s Caldereta Mix
6 cups / 1 kg of Beef brisket, cut into 1″ cubes
2 tbsp / 30 ml of Oil
4 cups / 1 L of Water
½ cup / 125 g of Potatoes, diced
½ cup / 125 g Carrots, diced
1 pc / 50 g of Red bell pepper, cut into 1½” triangles
½ cup / 125 g of Frozen green peas
½ cup / 60 g / Green olives, pitted (optional)
Cooking Instructions
In a saucepan, pan-fry beef brisket in cooking oil until the edges turn brown. Add water and bring to a boil, lower the heat and simmer until tender. Add water if necessary. When the meat is tender, add potatoes and carrots. Simmer until cooked.
Add Mama Sita’s Caldereta Mix. Stir and let it boil.
Add red bell pepper, green peas, and green olives. Cook for 3 minutes. Serve hot.
Team Out of Town Blog Hub (Outoftownblog.com) – Towering 64 feet or about six storeys high, posted along the entrance of DoubleDragon Meridian Park, stands a refreshing new installation of public art depicting a figure of a young person named “BAYANI”. Not far down the road is another installation of public art waving at passersby along EDSA named “PAG-ASA”.
Dedicated to the Filipino youth, the sculptures symbolize the future of the country as the young median age of the Philippine population is one of the key driving forces that fuel economic growth. It also symbolizes the aspiration of making the Philippines into one of the largest economies in the world within the next few decades.
The ultra-modern stainless steel sculptures were designed by globally renowned Filipino artist Jefrë Figueras Manuel, also known as “JEFRË”.
“The Filipino words BAYANI and PAG-ASA are a huge inspiration to create sculptures in this region of the Philippines. You need one and the other. The idea of a hero wouldn’t exist without hope and with hope, you can become a hero,” says Filipino artist JEFRË.
“I believe that the Filipino youth have the potential to be recognized as active participants in worldwide activities, hence the globe for the head. They’re both composed of very hard metal that is polished and brushed to perfection – very much like the story of the Filipino youth,” added JEFRË.
These larger than life iconic sculptures are set to soon become a selfie destination and a national landmark along the Bay Area. Public art is a distinguishing part of the landscape and adds meaning to the DD Meridian Park development.
With these installations, DD Meridian Park will have a stronger sense of place and identity. The company is confident that this landmark modern art tribute to the Filipino youth will be embraced and valued by the public and that they will identify and be inspired with the heroism and hope that it intends to impart.
“We hope that this tribute to the Filipino youth, Bayani and Pag-asa, will in some way or another spark inspiration in our hearts and minds to remind all of us that the Philippines has what it takes to become a highly prosperous first world country,” said DoubleDragon and DDMP REIT Inc. Chairman Edgar “Injap” Sia II.
The Philippine economy is forecasted to become one of the world’s largest economy by 2050. The reasons cited are the young median age of the Philippine population as well as the geographic advantage, the natural resources advantage among other key elements. The future growth of the Philippines will be fueled by its young population. The Filipino youth armed with a deep sense of heroism and hope is expected to catapult the Philippines’ ranking jump higher among other countries in the World.
The 4.8 hectare DD Meridian Park complex was designed to have a lasting positive impact on the wellbeing of its occupiers. DoubleDragon upholds a strong sense of corporate social responsibility and always endeavors to build exemplary sustainable eco-friendly iconic structures that will blend well with the community intended to remain productive and relevant in the next 100 years and more.
Bayani and Pag-Asa are expected to further complement and enhance DoubleDragon Meridian Park’s position as the the most desirable office and commercial address in the Bay Area, Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

Team Out of Town Blog Hub (Outoftownblog.com) – We are constantly on the lookout for technologies that will make our lives easier, and every year, tech companies introduce new products to suit our ever-evolving needs and wants. Global smart device brand OPPO recently held its annual OPPO INNO DAY, a yearly presentation to introduce its groundbreaking gadgets and software. The two-day global event themed “Reimaging the Future,” was packed with keynote speeches from OPPO executives including CEO Tony Chen and CPO Pete Lau, presentations for the highly anticipated new AR glasses and OPPO’s own foldable smartphone. All these were made accessible through a virtual reality gathering in OPPO INNO World where tech-heads could meet and celebrate the new innovations together.
Sound exciting? Here’s a rundown of all the technologies first unveiled during OPPO INNO DAY that have us counting down the days ‘til they’re officially available in the Philippines:
The most practical foldable smartphone
Launching its first-ever foldable flagship phone, OPPO introduces the Find N, the result of four years of hard work and prototyping. Unveiled during the second day by OPPO’s Chief Product Officer Pete Lau, the Find N is a sleek device that promises a seamless 7.1” display when unfolded (5.49” when folded), grounded on the Flexion Hinge, which Lau calls “the best hinge design available today,” as it practically eliminates the gap between displays.
OPPO customized the user interface to operate better and more efficiently in compatible apps. For example, in the Notes app, the OPPO Find N can convert into a mini laptop allowing you to take notes without needing to hold the device. Since the Find N can freely stand at various angles, the device also serves as its own tripod, making 4K HD time-lapse imaging, video calls, and online meetings easy and hands-free.
The software of the OPPO Find N is optimized to allow users to smoothly and naturally switch between the folded and unfolded screens, relaying content seamlessly between the inner and outer displays. The Find N also supports a range of keyboard customizations, allowing users to use a split keyboard to make typing easier when the smartphone is unfolded.
The OPPO Find N also comes with several split-screen features, including Parallel Window, which allows users to multitask with different windows open on either side of the display, and a split-camera interface, which allows you to take images and videos on one side, and view, share or delete on the other.
Groundbreaking assisted reality glasses
Its first commercially available AR glasses, OPPO Air Glass is a lightweight monocle that acts as an extension of your smartphone, projecting images as if it’s front of your eyes thanks to its Spark Micro Projector. With a unique cicada wing design, the OPPO Air Glass uses the compact projection system – just about the size of a coffee bean – to deliver bright and sharp content, whether indoors or outdoors.
Controlled via your Color OS11-powered OPPO phone or OPPO Watch 2, the Air Glass allows you to view and clear notifications, get weather updates, monitor health data, and even access real-time translation with just touch, voice, head movements, and hand motions.
Cutting-edge Imaging NPU
The smart device brand’s first-ever imaging neural processing unit, called MariSiliconX, was the headliner on Day 1, promising to deliver incredible image processing power. Set to debut with the Find X Series in 2022, the microchip enables real-time RAW processing to capture stunning 4K HDR and AI Night videos, making it the most advanced imaging processing unit available in a smartphone.
While OPPO has announced the upcoming availability of these devices and technologies in China, we can’t wait to see all these innovations on our shores soon.

Cities take the top spot crown but beach and rural destinations rank high in this year’s top ten
Team Out of Town Blog Hub (Outoftownblog.com) – New Agoda data and insight shows that traveler preferences for New Year’s Eve–beach and rural destinations–are proving more popular than in previous years. Famous cities remain hot and popular destinations, but the travel trend to truly get away and escape continues to dominate the post-pandemic travel recovery.
While Asia-wide, capital cities dominate each market’s top destinations for New Year’s Eve, including the return of Bangkok to Thailand’s number one spot, world-class beach destinations like Goa (India), Bali (Indonesia), Cebu (Philippines), Pattaya (Thailand), Jeju Island (South Korea), and Penang (Malaysia) also make the list with partygoers this year are taking advantage of the lifting of restrictions to be more adventurous and exploring further.
Agoda’s data shows that across many markets there are many newcomers to this year’s top ten, including coastal destinations Batam Island (Indonesia, #10), Andaman and Nicobar Island (India, #7), and Kenting (Taiwan, #10). Lush green mountains and scenic destinations, including Khao Kho (Thailand, #9), Bohol (the Philippines, #8), and Ninh Binh (Vietnam, #10) also gain in popularity. In Vietnam, Sapa and Dalat knock Hanoi out of this year’s top three.
Travelers are taking care of themselves after on-and-off lockdowns this year. According to data by Agoda, the preference for 4-5 star hotels is even stronger with Taiwan and Thailand travelers upgrading to 4-5 star hotels, from 1-3.5 star accommodation for New Year’s Eve this year, joining Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, and Vietnam travelers who continue to choose 4-5 star venues to celebrate the arrival of 2022. In India, 1-3.5 star hotels remain popular among travelers, reflective of trends in 2020.
“Travel is back, although domestic travel remains the predominant source of business for Asian destinations during this NYE celebration season. Agoda data shows that in addition to the big city, traditional, celebration destinations, travelers across Asia are showing their ongoing desire to get out, to get away, and to escape the constrictions and controls of COVID-impacted cities. The city staycay is booming. Equaling the appeal of Asia’s beaches is the stunning scenery and freedom of open space. In Vietnam, Hanoi was knocked out of the top three by Sapa. Meanwhile, Boracay sprung into the second spot for the Philippines, and Kuching in Borneo unseated Langkawi for a spot in Malaysia’s top three.
In addition, consumers want luxury. There are great 4-5 star, luxury, hotel deals available during the COVID recovery. Data shows that Taiwanese and Thai travelers are booking higher star category hotels compared to last year, joining travelers from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Korea, and Vietnam in the hunt for a luxurious end to a tough 2021,” says Timothy Hughes, Vice President Corporate Development, Agoda.
Most-Booked Philippine Destinations on New Year’s Eve
The capital city of Manila retains its #1 spot leading up to NYE once again, followed by sunny Boracay at the second spot., Cebu continues to stay in the top three spots with its rich history and proximity to multiple islands, In #4 spot is Tagaytay, close to the city center, offering scenic views of the Taal lake volcano and Baguio’s (#5) winter reminds Filipinos of winters in Europe
New joiners Bohol known for its unique chocolate hills and nature and Davao City with its hustle and bustle of city life knocked Laguna and Iloilo off the top ten list
Filipinos are craving city, nature, and beaches all the same
Boracay heads back into the top three destinations
Team Out of Town Blog Hub (Outoftownblog.com) – Digital financial services leader PayMaya recently paid it forward to the frontlines of the National Center for Mental Health. The company distributed 100 Christmas food baskets to the NCMH Crisis Hotline responders and the Emergency Room and Psychiatric Acute Unit staff.
“Promoting mental health is important, especially among our young people during this pandemic. We are paying it forward to our mental health frontliners who have been helping fight this silent battle. We admire them for bravely dedicating their time and effort to help those suffering from mental health issues,” said Nick Wilwayco, Head of Public Affairs and Communications at PayMaya.
According to NCMH, the average volume of monthly calls they received during the pandemic nearly quadrupled versus pre-pandemic numbers. PayMaya’s gift to NCMH is part of PayMaya’s initiative under the MVP Group’s Tuloy Pa Rin Ang Pasko campaign, which aims to keep the Christmas spirit alive amid the pandemic.
Early this year, NCMH was also a beneficiary of the PayMaya It Forward Flash Donation Drive for COVID-19 frontliners.
Cebu Pacific reminders on relief cargo and air travel this peak Holiday season
Team Out of Town Blog Hub (Outoftownblog.com) – Cebu Pacific (CEB) is now focusing on transporting relief goods to provinces devastated by Super Typhoon Odette (Rai), as it works toward stabilizing its operations in the aftermath of the cyclone.
CEB has started transporting relief goods on the night of December 18 to Cebu and has been mounting humanitarian flights to bring home stranded individuals from provinces that were greatly affected by the typhoon which lashed the Visayas-Mindanao areas last week.
“We have been getting numerous requests to ship relief goods to areas hit by Odette. We are doing our best to accommodate all requests to help the provinces and communities which need supplies,” said Michael Ivan Shau, Cebu Pacific Chief Corporate Affairs Officer.

Suki buyer Maricris Lorenzo, passionate seller Biboy Bautista, and hardworking rider Jggigs Elmido share Kwentong Shopee stories of how they managed to get through a challenging year
Team Out of Town Blog Hub (Outoftownblog.com) – As we persevered despite another year of the pandemic, there is no denying that the “new normal” has significantly changed the way we shopped. In the past couple of years, we eagerly embraced the world of online shopping, which left a big impact not just on our shopping carts, but also on our hearts.
For plenty of ordinary Filipinos such as Maricris Lorenzo, Biboy Bautista, and Jggigs Elmido, Shopee has completely transformed their lives. They each come from different walks of life and carry their unique Kwentong Shopee, but they all have one thing in common—hope. Here are three stories of how Shopee has helped shoppers, riders, and sellers rise above difficulties:
Suki buyer and wais mommy Maricris Lorenzo
After working as an OFW in Singapore for 10 years, Maricris Lorenzo and her husband decided to settle down and start their own family back in the Philippines. However, as the couple welcomed the birth of their first child and tried to navigate their way as new parents, they found themselves facing new challenges due to the pandemic.
Thanks to Maricris’ knack for resourcefulness, however, they continue to take good care of their child. Raising a baby can also be financially draining, but as a self-proclaimed wais misis, Maricris finds ways to get the best deals and value for her money. She admits that almost all of their basic essentials and baby needs are from Shopee. She was such a frequent shopper, she even went on to forge a strong friendship with her suki Shopee Xpress rider.
The rider offered their help when Maricris and her family contracted COVID-19 this past year. “Kung wala si Shopee, hindi ko alam kung saan ako kukuha ng mga items during those critical times of the pandemic especially nung nag-quarantine kami,” she said.
After getting sick, Maricris wisely utilized her finances and used Shopee’s cashback rewards to save on bills, which were beginning to pile up. Maricris also used ShopeePay so she can save money, maximize exclusive perks, and, since her family’s safety is a top priority, go cashless.
As she looks back on her experience, Maricris expresses her gratitude to Shopee for helping her find ways to save on her family’s expenses and find a lifelong friend during a crisis. “Salamat kay Shopee kasi nakakatipid ako. Salamat kay Shopee kasi nakaka-meet kami ng riders na parte na rin ng buhay namin.”
Passionate and resourceful pet store owner Biboy Bautista
E-commerce platforms provided opportunities for entrepreneurs to digitize, expand, and explore other businesses amidst the pandemic. After Biboy Bautista’s previous printing business shut down due to the pandemic, he opened Barkboi, a pet store that started as a humble dog food business in a small garage. He then took his business online, which grew to become a full-blown pet store with five branches in Las Piñas. Biboy calls it a stroke of luck since he didn’t expect his love for animals to turn into a booming business, especially during the pandemic.
However, the success didn’t come without challenges, the biggest of which happened during the second wave of the coronavirus last August. Biboy had to temporarily close shop after he and the majority of his employees contracted the virus. As a business owner, Biboy was aware of the responsibilities he had towards his employees, which included people who lost jobs due to the pandemic and undergraduate students who needed income to further their education. To make sure he could still support his employees, Biboy decided to focus on selling on Shopee while the rest of the team recovered.
After setting up his dream business from scratch and growing it exponentially within a year, Biboy believes that just giving up is not an option. As long as their Shopee store continues to flourish, Biboy says that’s all the strength they need to bounce back from the hurdles Barkboi has encountered. He tells his employees, “Basta Shopee natin maayos, sigurado tayo buhay tayo. Hangga’t may benta may pag-asa!”
Hardworking and dedicated Shopee Xpress rider Jgiggs Elmido
A Shopee Xpress rider faces many struggles—adjusting to routes and managing deliveries, to name a few—but they’re no match for Jggigs Elmido. As a father, husband, and student, he had to make ends meet in order to provide for his young family, give them the best future, and finish his studies.
After taking a break from school to take care of his newborn baby, Jgiggs worked as a Shopee Xpress Rider. Through his job as a rider, Jgiggs was able to reach milestones he had set for himself, such as buying his own phone and motorcycle, building his own home, paying for his studies, and supporting his family.
In just one day, Jggigs would attend class, spend time with his family, and deliver orders until the evening. He admits that raising a young family, being a rider, and pursuing a degree at the same time was stressful, but he proves to be one tough cookie that can’t be deterred.
